I have often told people that the best decade was from '55 - '65, you had to have been there to understand...
I first heard this version on a Channel ad in the 80's and only recently found out it was by Wilde.
Phil Phillips is the only one that can sing this song. He wrote it and puts emphasis on words verses, verses and the chorus. Wilde is not that good. Heard it on here once. Waste of time..

I never tire of hearing this song. I like it so much I play it on my guitars. I have the cd of Marty's hits,and they were many. I would say he was better than actually accredited at the time. His songs live on.

It's not that rare for a UK cover to be better than the US original. 'Do-Wah-Diddy-Diddy', 'Baby It's You', 'Tainted Love', 'Twist and Shout' and 'Shout' spring to mind.

Marty Wilde never really got the recognition that he deserved...a true icon.
He got the recognition, but it was sadly short lived once he got married to Joyce Baker. I bought his Running Wild album a few years ago, and it's brilliant. He still has the chops both as a performance and recording artist alike.
Marty's version of 'Endless Sleep' is also superior to the original - to my ears at least.
